Questions, questions...

Scaresville is unlike any other event you have visited so it’s likely you will have lots of questions, so please see below our frequently asked questions. If you have a question that is not answered in our FAQs below then please reach out to one of our Scaresville ghouls

FAQ

  • When should we arrive?

You can arrive up to 15mins before your booked Entry Time Band, and we ask that you are all here, and checked in, by half- way through your entry time band. The earlier you arrive, the earlier you will be let in. If you miss your entry time band we will try and fit you in, if possible. If you miss your day - that's devilish bad luck. There are no refunds.

  • What should we wear?

Scaresville continues whatever the weather and the majority of the route is outside. If there has been a lot of rain it can get quite muddy, and October nights can be quite cold. Wear clothes suitable for the cold and wet and wellies or boots. Not your new trainers! No umbrellas are allowed for safety reasons.

  • Can I come in costume?

We don't allow visitors to wear any masks in Scaresville. In fact we think it's better overall if you leave the costumes to us!

  • What should we bring?

Warm and waterproof clothes and shoes. Please don't bring food or alcoholic drink onto the site. Bring cash for buying food and drinks and to try out our new Witchcraft Escape Room experience. We serve food and drinks in the UnFairground before you go round and post-scare you can enjoy a drink and warm food to calm your nerves in BARbaric.

  • Should I bring a torch?

A low-level lit torch means 'don't scare me!' at Scaresville. So only light your torch if you don't want scarers to operate their scare (this will mean the entire group won't experience it). We ask that otherwise you don't use torches at any point during the route as it will spoil the event.

  • What size group should I bring?

We scare groups. You will travel around Scaresville in a group of 8-12 people. We advise people that it is best to book an entire, exclusive group. Not only will you get cheaper tickets, you will get to watch your friends scream! If you book for less than 8 people, you will be teamed up with other parties to make a group of 8-12 and you must stay with them, even if you don't know them.

  • How do I book for more than twelve people?

If you are booking for more than 12 people, you will need to make two or more bookings. If you end up with a group of less than 8, be prepared to have additional people added to that group to meet our minimum group size, or, better still get more friends to join you. If you are booking for more than 24 people, please call Scare HQ (01787 310207 (tel:01787 310207) ) as you will be entitled to an extra discount.

  • Can we book for less than eight people?

Yes. You can book a single ticket or any number you wish. Just be warned as we scare groups we shall join you up with others on the night to make up a group of between 8 and 12. You must remain together with this group throughout the Scaresville experience.

  • What are GroupCodes?

GroupCodes are given to all bookings. Share it with your friends and they can use it to join your group directly. If your group reaches 8 or more people then we won't add any strangers, and you will also be able to add people to your group even if we are Sold Out. Maximum per group is 12.

  • How do I join a group using a GroupCode?

Select your Day and Time on the booking page, if we are 'Sold Out' click the 'Use a GroupCode' link that will appear. If we are not Sold Out you will be able to enter the GroupCode during the checkout process. You may only join a group in a Sold Out time if the group has 8 or more people already. Groups have a maximum of 12 people.

  • How long does it last?

The Scaresville experience is designed to take approximately an hour from the time when you enter the Scarezone. On certain nights, you may be held up by slow moving groups ahead but we try to minimise the effect of this. If you are booking a taxi to collect you after the experience please note that you might not enter the ScareZone until the end of the timeband that you have booked for, so please allow for entering then, for perhaps not exiting for an hour and a quarter and add another ten/fifteen minutes for going to the loo and getting back to the entrance. It may be better for you to wait for the taxi than to have the taxi waiting around for you or leaving the driver having decided you were not coming.

  • How do we get round?

You will walk the entire route, so please come prepared prepared to walk without a break for in hour or so. The ground may be uneven, and we sometimes make it deliberately so. You need to decide before booking if you or any in your party may find this too testing or difficult.

  • What if our group catches up with the group in front?

Groups are put into the ScareZone at set intervals. That interval should be maintained throughout. However, groups may move at different speeds and a fast moving group may catch a slow-moving one. The group behind should always try to maintain its distance from the group ahead. Slow down or stop, wait and regulate the timings yourselves. Our Marshals are also on hand and will try to assist to avoid any bunching that may occur and that groups are kept suitably separated. Please wait patiently if you are asked to do so.

  • Will there be food and drink?

There will be a variety of food and drink available for you to enjoy before you go round. When you return from the Scaresville route you can enjoy a post-scare drink and a bite to eat in BAR-baric to warm the depths of your soul and help your heartbeat recover.

  • Can we buy alcohol at Scaresville?

Yes, you may purchase alcoholic drinks from our bar, BARbaric, to calm your nerves, but only after your visit around Scaresville. Note that for safety reasons and the comfort of other visitors, we reserve the right not to admit any person to Scaresville who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

  • Can I drink alcohol before entering Scaresville?

We will NOT admit anyone that appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. We reserve the right to deny entry to the Scareszone to anyone under the influence or drink or drugs or who displays aggressive or unacceptable antagonistic behaviour.

  • Can I take photographs, or film inside Scaresville? Can I wear my go-pro?

We do not permit any filming or photography at all within the Scaresville ScareZone. Scaresville is designed to be enjoyed in the dark; any light-sources, beyond the ones we strategically place, will destroy it for you and for others. Life seen and experienced through your own eyes is far better than through a lens! There are a couple of designated #screamselfie areas, where you are welcome to use our props for your own pics; these are at the Unfairground (before you enter the ScareZone) and in the BARBaric Bar (after the ScareZone).

  • Is it really scary?

The clue is in the name. ScaresVille! It is scary, but fun, we hope to make you laugh as much as we make you scream. I may be too much for some visitors who ask to leave, and who are then welcome to wait for the rest of their party in BarBaric.

  • Will the scares be the same as last year?

Scaresville changes each year, however some 'old favourites' remain but may be improved. Entirely new scares or the way we present scares are introduced each year. Please note not all scares may operate every night.

  • What if I get too scared?

If you become too scared, you can leave early. Seek directions from a marshal or scarer who can direct you towards the easiest route to leave by. Please note that once you have left your group you cannot rejoin them. If you show (or anyone in your group shows) a light we take that as an indication that you want to avoid scares and some (we cannot guarantee all) scares may not then operate.

  • What are Entry Time Bands?

At booking stage you will have to choose your Entry Time band for the evening. This is the hour during which you are due to enter the scarezone. When you arrive we will assign you an entry order. Those who arrive earliest will go in earliest etc. For example, if you book for the 7pm-8pm Entry Time Band you may enter the ScareZone at 7pm if you arrive early, but you might not enter until nearly 8pm, depending on how many groups arrive before you.

  • Why are there no child tickets?

Scaresville is an adult event. We strongly advise that Scaresville is not suitable for children aged under 14. If a child or young person appears seriously frightened we may ask the parent or guardian to take the child out.

  • Can my 16 year old come with his/her friends or do I have to supervise them?

All visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult over 21 years of age at all times. Should any under 18 year old request to leave the ScareZone, they must be accompanied by an adult. If there is only one adult accompanying the group, all under-18s in that group will be asked to leave the ScareZone.

  • I’m pregnant/have a weak heart/am frail/disabled. Can I still come?

Scaresville is not suitable for those that are pregnant, have a heart or photosensitive condition or are frail. Strobe lighting, smoke and other sound and light effects will be used throughout the route. There is over one hour of constant walking involved. You will jump. You will be surprised. You will be scared. If you are of a sensitive disposition, Scaresville may not be for you. If you think you might struggle to walk for an hour comfortably, climb over obstacles and over uneven ground, Scaresville may not be for you. Unfortunately Scaresville is unsuitable for wheelchairs. If you, or any member of your party have a significant disability of any sort, please contact Scare HQ before booking.

  • I cannot make it to Scaresville. Can I get a refund?

There are no refunds. However, if you give us at least 48 hours notice before your booked time we may be able to reschedule your booking.
